What is Ear Surgery?
Otoplasty, commonly referred to as ear surgery, is designed to alter the shape, size, or position of the ears to achieve improved aesthetic balance or functional correction. The procedure can enhance facial symmetry, thereby contributing to increased psychological well-being and self-esteem. A variety of surgical techniques are available, and the optimal approach is determined collaboratively during the preoperative consultation, based on the patient’s unique anatomical features and treatment objectives.
The Aesthetica Difference
Our plastic surgeons at Aesthetica bring over 25 years of combined experience to the practice performing otoplasty procedures, helping patients achieve balanced and natural ear contours. Otoplasty, or ear reshaping surgery, requires a high level of surgical precision and aesthetic judgment to reposition or reshape the ears while preserving vital structures such as sensory nerves and ensuring minimal, well-concealed incisions.
Our Surgeons extensive experience and refined artistic approach enable them to deliver results that are both natural in appearance and tailored to each patient’s unique anatomy.
Journey To Confidence
At your consultation, you will be able to discuss questions and voice what you would like changed through surgery. Your Surgeon will discuss the details of the procedure and create a surgical plan with you. Our office staff will provide you with a surgery quote and can help schedule your procedure.
You will have a pre-operative appointment three weeks prior to surgery. At this appointment, you will sign consents, discuss any last minute questions and concerns, and get further pre- and post-surgery instructions.
Your surgery will take place at an accredited facility. This is generally a 2 hour procedure and you will be released home on the same day.
Generally, you will be seen 1 to 3 days after surgery and again 4 to 5 days later. Further post operative appointments will continue and be dependent upon your recovery.
Recovery for otoplasty procedure is 2 weeks of no lifting or exercising. Patients typically feel well enough to go back to work around 7 days. An ear band is worn day and night for 2 weeks and then just at night for an additional 6 weeks. At Aesthetica, post operative care and safety is our number one priority. We see patients frequently after their procedure to assure healing and recovery is on track. Patients also have 24 hour access to a nurse on call for emergencies.
Experience the transformative results of otoplasty—where subtle changes make a visible difference. Many patients feel more confident wearing their hair up, enjoying a more refined appearance and enhanced self-assurance following the procedure.
Aesthetica Plastic Surgery Reviews
My overall experience with Dr. Crofts was Great he takes his time to explain everything and I am extremely happy with my results I did not feel like just a number with him or his staff. I would definitely refer Dr. Crofts to my friend's.
Dr. Crofts is fantastic and does beautiful work. Whether you are interacting with the receptionist, nurses, or Dr. Crofts himself, they are all very kind and personable. Post surgery, the staff is great to answer any questions and return phone calls in a timely manner. It was a great experience from beginning to end.
Dr. Croft and his office staff are very professional. They gave me a warm welcome and made me feel very comfortable during my visit. They answered all of my questions and went above and beyond helping me to make up my mind about what size implants I wanted and even showed me how to know what was the best fit for my body’s shape and size.Dr Croft even helped me to understand that having elective surgery is about having confidence in your body and how it can boost self esteem. In doing so, he helped to ease my feelings of guilt because I felt like I was being “vain” when so many live with disfiguring scars and birth defects. And upon my request, Dr. Croft even gave my husband and I a quick tour of the recovery room and even let us peek into the operating rooms. The tour made us feel even more comfortable with my upcoming procedure. With so much care and thoughtfulness that went into my initial consultation, I’m very much looking forward to my surgery and I have the utmost confidence in choosing Dr. Croft and his staff at Esthetica for my procedure.

Frequently Asked Questions
What concerns can ear surgery address?
- Overly large ears – a condition called macrotia
- Protruding ears occurring on one or both sides in varying degrees – not associated with hearing loss
Who is a good candidate for ear surgery?
Ear surgery is generally appropriate for healthy individuals aged 8 and older, as the ear cartilage has typically developed enough by this age to undergo corrective procedures. Ideal pediatric candidates are in good overall health, without serious medical conditions or unresolved chronic ear infections. Teenagers and adults seeking otoplasty should also be in stable health and free from illnesses or medical issues that could interfere with proper healing or recovery.
How long is recovery after ear surgery?
The recovery for ear surgery is often less than expected. Patients need to avoid strenuous activity and lifting items heavier than 5 pounds for 2 weeks after surgery. Patients will also wear an ear band day and night for 2 weeks and then just at night for an additional 6 weeks.
